Ceramic Coating Warranties: What to Promise (and What Not To)

Sandhills Shine

A ceramic coating warranty does two jobs at once: it's a real promise to the client about how the product should perform, and it's a sales tool that makes the higher price of a coating job feel justified. Get the promise wrong in either direction — too vague or too generous — and it causes problems later.

Be specific about what the warranty actually covers

"Lasts 2 years" is the kind of promise that sounds reassuring and means nothing when a client comes back in month 14 with a coating that's degraded from being parked outside under a tree the whole time. A warranty that says what it covers — the coating's hydrophobic performance and gloss retention under normal use and normal washing — and what voids it — no maintenance wash for six months, or damage from an unrelated paint issue — protects you from an argument neither side wins.

  • State the exact time window and what "normal use" means for it
  • Name what voids it, specifically, not just "improper care"
  • Decide up front whether it's a redo, a discount on redo, or a maintenance touch-up — before you're deciding it live with an upset client

The real value of a warranty is the reason it gives you to reach back out

A warranty that just sits in an email nobody reopens isn't doing much for you. The actual business value shows up when you reach out again before it lapses — not to sell anything hard, just a real reminder that it's worth getting the car back in for a check before the window closes. That's a genuine reason to be back in touch with a client who already trusts your work, and it's the kind of follow-up that turns into a rebook far more often than a cold one does.

That reminder only works if it actually happens on time, for every coating job, without depending on someone remembering to check a calendar eighteen months from now. Once the product and the warranty window are logged on the job itself, the follow-up takes care of itself.

This is the same software running Sandhills Shine day to day.
